As part of its inaugural “State of the Mountain State” polling series, the Cardinal Institute for WV Policy surveyed West Virginians on their attitudes regarding West Virginia’s K-12 education system. Unfortunately, the results were not promising. As the graphic shows, only 2% of respondents thought the system was “excellent” and only 18% felt that it was “good.” Sadly, 80% of respondents thought that West Virginia’s K-12 system was only average or poor/failing (over 1/3 felt that it was poor/fair).
Surprisingly, 62% of respondents felt that school choice would improve the state’s education system. This is surprising given the fact that West Virginia is one of a handful states with no form of education choice.
